East Africa is home to over 400 million people across Tanzania 🇹🇿, Kenya 🇰🇪, Uganda 🇺🇬, Ethiopia 🇪🇹, Rwanda 🇷🇼, Burundi 🇧🇮, Somalia 🇸🇴, and neighboring countries. Yet, the region continues to carry a heavy tuberculosis (TB) burden, with an estimated 600,000 new cases emerging each year—deeply impacting families already facing economic strain.
Under the theme “Shared Burden, Shared Response,” this year’s forum highlights a vital truth: TB knows no borders. No single country can eliminate it alone. It can only be tackled through regional collaboration, rigorous evidence, and unified action. This is the true spirit of Jirani—the understanding that good neighbors face shared threats together.
