KAVI –ICR BEREAVEMENT CARE STUDY WORKSHOP

The bereavement care study workshop was held at Kapsabet St. Peters Hall.
The country trial manager (Mr. Geoffrey) talked about KAVI ICR and LSTM on the neonatal and still birth research being undertaken in KENYA and UGANDA and the statistics on still birth across the east African countries. In entirety he talked about the background of the work stream and activities He stated that still birth being a traumatic experience necessitated the care study following the events during and after the still birth and the study is in three clusters and the interventions in the study includes;
>Advancing bereavement care and health care workers sensitization,

>Champions training within the health care workers

>Peer support intervention

He emphasized that mothers with pregnancy above 28 weeks or within 30 days postnatal are eligible for the study but an informed consent should be obtained and a follow up will be done for 8- 14 weeks.
A feasibility report presented from mothers in KNH and Pumwani maternity hospital guided this bigger study.
