The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) hosted a delegation from Edan, a respectable medical equipment manufacturing company from China, for talks on a groundbreaking collaboration in setting up of an Obstetric ultrasound training center.
The delegation led by Mr. PK Lau, underscored the need of setting up of the innovative center that purposes to increase skilled personnel in the obstetric field so as to reduce maternal neo-natal mortality rate.
The talks also centered on development of research in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in ultrasound. This was informed by local data that highlighted a need to integrate the use of AI in the procedure. This is geared to increase the uptake of ultrasound in the country and drive the reduction of maternal and neo-natal mortality.
The meeting also brought together a team from Gates Foundation, Shenzhen University and FHS faculty members from the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Diagnostic Imaging & Radiation Medicine and Biochemistry.
In attendance from the university was Dr. Francis Wanyama, Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Studies, Prof. C.F Otieno, Prof. Eunice Cheserem and Dr. Callen Onyambu.
