The Faculty of Health Sciences, through AMSUN Art, is hosting the 3rd Edition of FHS Cultural Week under the theme One Health—a globally significant framework recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
This year’s edition seeks to promote interdisciplinary dialogue, environmental consciousness, student leadership, and Afro-centred creative expression within the University of Nairobi community.
The week officially began on Monday with the Art Gallery Opening Ceremony at the KNH Campus Library, alongside the release of the third edition of UTAMADUNI magazine. The exhibition highlights sustainability, African identity, and the relationship between culture and health.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Julie Gichuru, Director of ALADI, encouraged authenticity and inclusivity, urging students to “Come as you are!”
Dr. Marianne Mureithi, Director of KAVI, reminded attendees of the deeper calling within healthcare, stating, “Through us, God heals and to be a part of that is wonderful.”
The patron of the AMSUN Art Club, Dr. Brian Maugo, celebrated the depth of creativity within the Faculty, noting, “You’d be surprised by the talents among medical students; from cooks, to painters and dancers…everyone has so much to offer.”
Organizing Chair Isaiah Awori reflected on the broader purpose of university life: “A university is more than just studying; it’s about socializing, nurturing talents, and growing together.”
On Tuesday, students led a Climate Change and One Health Awareness March, followed by an interactive seminar from 4:00–7:00 p.m. The panel brought together representatives from the School of Veterinary Medicine, the School of Anthropology, and the Pharmacy programme, demonstrating the interdisciplinary collaboration that defines the One Health approach.
The week continues with the Bella Papa Cultural Concert (Wednesday, 4:00–7:00 p.m.), a Faculty-Led Seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance (Thursday, 4:00–7:00 p.m.), a Cultural Excursion to the Nairobi Safari Walk and Animal Orphanage (Friday, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.), and will conclude with the Prom and Mr. & Ms. FHS Pageant at Taifa Hall on Saturday, 14th February (1:00–6:00 p.m.).
FHS Cultural Week 2026 continues to celebrate culture, creativity, and collective growth.
